“The Model Bakery Cookbook” By: Karen Mitchell and Sarah Mitchell Hansen with Rick Rodgers.
This cookbook is far beyond some of the most delicious bread recipes that you’ll ever find. It also has some of the most delicious dessert recipes you’ll find! I really enjoyed this book not just because of its delicious recipes, but because of its amazing photographs, old-fashioned feel and spectacular writing.
The “Model Bakery” originated in Napa Valley and gained quite the following for it’s delicious breads – you can research this for yourself through Google – and gained a following pretty quickly. I’m so glad this bakery released a cookbook – because now everyone (who – like me – doesn’t live near Napa Valley) can enjoy their wonderful menu items. Recipes such as dinner rolls, croissants, classic cheese Danish, sticky buns, cinnamon rolls, buttermilk biscuits, banana-walnut muffins, Irish soda bread, espresso Bundt cake, red velvet cake, sunny lemon cake, old-fashioned boiled icing, apple streusel pie, pastry cream, lemon squares, brownies, peanut butter cookies, tender sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies and even meringue mushrooms.
I’ve made a couple of things from this cookbook and have been very pleased with the results (sunny lemon cake, lemon squares) but have yet to try any of the bread recipes. Right now on I’m a “pie quest” – but once that is over I’m either going on a “doughnut quest” or a “bread quest”. If a “bread quest” is what’s calling my name – this book will be brought back out to accommodate me on my journey.
I highly recommend this book to bread bakers, dessert lovers, and bakers of all ages.
